Gillingham

All done at Gillingham, Snodland here we come, from a deck to a patio, with Indian Sandstone, Autumn Brown beautiful colour.

Cement base first tomorrow.

See you all soon!!

camelion

Not a bad day today, got almost all of the decking finished in Gillingham.  The customer here have three children and I think they cannot wait for it to finished so they can play.

Also they have a staffy dog, and a camelion, lovely thing, bright green with reds and other colour markings, I do not htink it will go on the deck, if it does it might change colour and then no one will find it.

Should finish the deck tomorrow.

See you all soon!!

Patios and decking

Had a good weekend, three jobs came in, one is still pending, just need the contract signed a agreed and off we go.

Have stated all that I need so we wait to hear.

Next week we might be able to finally lay the lawn at strood, if not certainly within the next two weeks as the weather is getting a little warmer and settled at the moment.

Patios, Decking and some landscaping.  Emails have also been coming in so all ready to go for the spring.

Still.thinking.com

We have today been thinking a great deal. See the last blogs.  I am not usually so indecisive but this has to right.  The pound sign syndrome, I think its called. But its not going to be worth it if I only come away with £100 at the end of it.  And it is precisely that which makes me think.  I have priced it to the best of my ability, covered all.  The drawing was a little hard to follow because it was done by some other company requested by the customer before I can onto the scene.

Crystal Ball

Well I have slept on my decision, and still not sure, a while back I was taken for about £2000 through absolutely no fault of mine or the work we done, in fact the work was up and beyond our standard we set ourselves.

But the man just decided not to pay the full amount, dealings are taking place to get the money but thats another story.

I guess its the thought of it happening again, as the money owed was from a very large job.

I know I will have to make a decision very soon.  Talked it over with my co worker Neil who has said we should do the work.   But something in the back of my mind is still saying "be careful"

See you all soon, and if anyone has an old crystal ball that works let me have a go.

To work or not to work that is the question

There comes a time when you have to decide what you want, its either getting work that makes you happy, or getting work that might cause you grieve.  We all want to do well and earn a good wage, but not at the expense of maybe losing ones head over it.

Choosing what to do is somewhat of a task on its own, what ever you tend to decide will always be, in my case anyway, the wrong one and the regrets kick in.

Passing the buck seems a good option most of the time.

But when you are working for yourself the buck always stops with you.

So I must make a decision and soon, I think I might sleep on it.

See you soon!!

Greenhithe

Been quite busy, quoting after a little rush of inquiries, all done now just waiting for work to come in, building a fence tomorrow after a customer passed on my details to them, nice getting work that way.

Close boarded fence about five sections so not too bad.

In Greenhithe near bluewater.  I shall resist the temptation to do some shopping.

Rush

Well 5 people in Gillingham, 13 people in Chatham and 4 in Sittingbourne amoung others, viewed the site in the last 24 hours, I am waiting for the rush.

Booked

The time we take to decide things in life can make a huge difference to the outcome.

For instance I am always honest when it comes to start dates, but I realise that saying things like, "book now for aviod dissapointment", can seem and sound like a tactic to get the order. But its true in my case, over the years I have had to book in work, and just as I do just that the work I would have like comes in, and then they cant wait for me to become available.  Well there is a moral somewhere.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Cuxton

A good week, finished the paving at cuxton the customer was very pleased and will be sending me an email.  The design was a simple one but these designs look good in the right area.

The Oakham Pattern was used, the paving is Rutland and its only two sizes but very attractive to look at.

A sloping effect on the pointing creates a nice effect.

Builders Phone

Well I got this new "builders phone" or so its called, its a samsung, its waterproof ish! dust proof ish! and shatter proof, drop it today on the patio and it was fine, the back is screwed into place so that didnt come off. So I guess its ok.

Why they call it a builders phone I will never know, I am a landscaper after all.

Still my last phone, which was still going ish! cost me £9.50 from Argos I had it over two years and had been drop a few times as well.

But it had to go!! The moral of this story is you dont have to pay over the odds for what you want.

Rogue Advert

Advertising is a must, word and mouth only goes so far, the cost of it though is sometimes rather silly.

Companies ring me up at least once a week, saying that they can do this and they can do that, costing a fortune and none of it happening.

I would have to get the tree planted that they seem to think money grows on.

Today for instance, get a phone call, from a UK Directory company, they said that my search engine optimisation is up for renewal, and it will cost £149 plus vat for 18 months, sounds good I thought, but I do not remember taking it out in the first place so how can it be up for renewal.  Getting old I suppose, cant remember things, checked in my bank account and paperwork, not a thing.

Bing

Many people in the region are veiwing my website which is good news, 8 people in Gravesend in the last 24 hours, other areas as well.

I am wondering how they find me, google seems to be the normal way, I was wondering how many people use Bing as a way of searching, microsofts Bing is becoming a force or perhaps it is has always been that way.

I am going to give it a try and put an advert on it and see the response I get.

Advertise

Our Patios and Decking are always the right choice, we only use locally sourced materials.

Well the motto has proved to be a hit, visitor numbers are up, in the last week I have had over 1250 people look at my site, which is great news.

We are waiting for the rush, been held back a little because of the snow I guess, but this week coming warmer weathe is on its way.

The time has come to advertise as usual, but this is costly word and mouth works for me but that goes only so far.

See you all soon!!

Productive day

Had a very productive day today, all went to plan. Need some more sand for the paving we are laying, but all went well.

Cuxton has still got a fair amount of snow but it got up to 8 degrees on the paving today so that helped the setting.

Will be taking pictures of it soon

see you all Soon!!

Cold weather

Well the snow and cold weather is still with us, we have been laying some paving this week, using a 4 : 1 mix and some frostproofer and rapid hardener chemicle, this works so that the cement hardens, its not so affected by the cold weather, it will stand down to minus 8, and the frostproofer in it works well.

The customer is very pleased with us turning up in such cold weather, making us hot drinks to keep us going.

See you all soon!!

Boiler room

Got the snow plough out, thats the broom to you and me, at cuxton ready to lay slabs, hopefully, got the chemicles to help the concrete to set so all going to plan, brushed off the area to be paved of snow.

Everywhere looks so good when the snow is around, but we just cant cope with snow can we.  Schools shut, trains delayed and more.

He I go, I remember when my dad was a school caretaker in chatham, 1963 was the year, which was one of the worse wointers on record for snow, drifting so high.  I went with him on this day which was a sunday, so no school, when we got to the gate we had to dig our way into the playground and then into the boiler room.  After what seemed to be ages we got into the boiler room which was lovely and warm, the boiler ran on coal, so my dad had to keep it alight, shovelling the coal onto the hatch made the warm air go for a while but once the coal started to catch it soon made the whole area lovely.

Then we had to find our way home, no please bear in mind, that, my dad could not drive, there was deep snow, and, my dad had lost part of his leg in the war so walking was ok, at the best of times, but with this snow around made it very hard for him.

We had fun though, and I went to school on Monday, and the boiler at my dads school was firing up nicely.  Another generation then I think, the likes we will probably not see or hear of again.

These days schools are shut for just a small amount of ice, good job its not 1963 again, they would be shut for a very long time.

Cuxton

Snowed in at the moment, hopefully will all gone by tuesday.  We have been creating a patio in Cuxton,  type 1 base laid before the snow.

Will have to use some rapid hardener to put into the cement, to make it set a little quicker.   When we start back.

See you all soon!!

Weather

Saturday turned out to be a good day, went to my granddaughters school concert, she is 4 bless her.  Took her shopping afterwards and gain some item in the trolley.

Went to see a garden scheme in Hempstead, really glad I did as it is a lovely scheme that is required, hope to get the work.

It is going to snow tonight, or so the weather men say, hope its not too bad.  We shall see in the morning, a stream of white I guess.

But reports say that early next week is going to be a little milder.

See you all soon!!
